Over more than 15 years of working together, Dane and Andy frequently discussed the challenges leaders face in keeping up with the rapid pace of change.

Beneath the surface of an outwardly impressive technology or team, significant problems often lurk - entirely avoidable critical issues, and even existential threats. Unidentified weaknesses create painful preventable problems that will hinder growth or put organisations at risk.

While Dane and Andy were both passionate about directly coaching leaders to help them improve - a valuable effort - it ultimately wasn't enough to address the problem at scale.

Another issue they identified was the lack of independent objective data for benchmarking performance - leaders were forming opinions in isolation or relying on unverified, second-hand information from peers, colleagues, and senior executives.

That is when the idea was born: What if they could codify their 50+ years of technology experience, into a platform that rapidly and objectively benchmarks an entire technology function – enabling leaders to find those unidentified gaps, compare their performance and empower them to make better decisions?

This was a problem worth solving, and StackUp was created.
