About
Daniel Buckton is the Founder and Managing Director of SurePath Cyber, a regional Victorian cybersecurity governance and advisory firm focused on helping small and medium businesses, not for profit organisations, and critical infrastructure supply chain partners strengthen their cyber resilience and governance maturity.
With more than 25 years of experience across technology, telecommunications, governance, and managed services environments, Daniel works closely with boards, executives, and operational leaders to translate cybersecurity from a purely technical discussion into a practical business and governance priority. His approach is grounded in real-world operational outcomes, balancing security uplift with commercial realities, resource constraints, and organisational maturity.
Daniel specialises in cybersecurity governance, SMB1001 implementation, Essential Eight uplift planning, third party risk management, and strategic IT oversight. He is particularly focused on supporting organisations operating within or adjacent to Critical Infrastructure supply chains, where increasing contractual, insurance, and regulatory expectations are driving the need for stronger cyber governance and evidence-based assurance programs.
His work regularly supports organisations across manufacturing, engineering, professional services, health, aged care, legal, and community sectors. Daniel has developed a strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by regional businesses and not for profit organisations, including limited internal resources, increasing compliance expectations, reliance on third party providers, and the need to maintain operational continuity while uplifting cyber maturity.
Within the healthcare and aged care sectors, Daniel supports organisations navigating cybersecurity obligations linked to patient privacy, operational resilience, RACGP expectations, and broader governance requirements. In the legal sector, his work focuses on strengthening governance, client confidentiality protections, evidence management, and risk oversight in alignment with evolving client and insurer expectations.
Daniel is also actively involved in the not for profit and community sector, with experience supporting incorporated associations, governance reform, board operations, strategic planning, and operational transition activities. His governance background includes committee and executive leadership roles within regional business and community organisations.
A key part of Daniel’s approach is working collaboratively alongside incumbent MSPs, IT providers, and
