Chief Technology Strategist | Turning IT budgets into strategic investments for Boards, CFOs & CIOs at Caterpillar Garden by Marcin Karkocha
Based in Poland · 19+ years experience
Summary
Interim-CTO, Chief Technology Strategist / Business-Value-First IT Strategy
About
I work with Boards, CFOs and CIOs to turn IT budgets into strategic investments. I’m usually invited in when IT has been “promising value” for years, but in the P&L it still looks mostly like a growing cost.
I typically step in at two moments. First, when a company starts to notice that in IT we keep doing the same things in different places, don’t see the duplication of work and systems, and unknowingly multiply costs. Second, when the Board expects clear investment decisions, but the people responsible for IT cannot confidently explain what exactly the next technology is supposed to deliver and why it is worth investing in it now.
I work with value stream maps, architecture and numbers – from ideas, through backlogs and projects, all the way to real business outcomes. I assess which IT initiatives truly deliver value and which merely promise it, and present this in simple, board‑ready decision scenarios.
I usually work with companies €100M+ (PL / EU) that want to align their IT project portfolio, budgets and roadmaps with business strategy – instead of just adding another system on top. If you want to see where money is leaking out of your IT and where value is actually created, let’s schedule a 30‑minute exploratory conversation.

Engagements commonly include technical due diligence, board reporting, engineering team leadership, technology strategy, architecture reviews, hiring support, and stepping in as interim CTO during a transition.
